Crew Dragon reportedly had a valve replaced while loaded with oxidizer

TRANSPORT & MOBILITYNEEDS REVIEWUpdated:

A Crew Dragon launch was reportedly delayed after an oxidizer leak was traced to a valve in the spacecraft’s propulsion system. According to the report, teams avoided draining the loaded propellant and disassembling the vehicle: they cut into a propellant line, removed the valve, installed a replacement, and welded the line back together.

Cutting, replacing, and rewelding the propellant line

The unusual part is the setting. The report says this was the first time SpaceX had made that kind of repair on a fully assembled Dragon already loaded with propellant, including nitrogen tetroxide oxidizer. SpaceX and NASA officials said subsequent checks found no leaks and that the propulsion system appeared to work after launch, while engineers continued testing the removed valve to determine what caused the leak.
