Signal hangup flaw reportedly could leave audio or video active

TECHNOLOGY & SOFTWARENEEDS REVIEWUpdated:

A report says a flaw in Signal’s calling library could let a call fail to end after one participant hangs up. The person who ended the call could believe it is over while audio, and possibly video, remains active.

A hangup request may remain unprocessed in an overloaded queue

The reported mismatch is that a hangup request is meant to end the call, but an overloaded call-management queue could reportedly leave that request unprocessed. The report says RingRTC version 2.72.0 changed how termination requests are handled and added a timeout, though rollout timing across Signal’s apps was unclear.
