SoftwareUnverifiedUpdated:

Windows 11 is reportedly introducing age-awareness APIs that would let apps distinguish age bands and check whether an age has been verified.

Age bands without sharing a full birth date

The reported Windows Age API can return bands including under 10, 10–12, 13–15, 16–17, and 18+. Developers would use separate calls for an age range and for verification status. The report says the APIs are broadly available to Windows Insiders and are intended to reach all Windows users later.

The report does not establish how every Windows app previously handled age checks or age-appropriate settings.

Windows 11 is reportedly adding APIs through which apps can receive age ranges and an age-verification status without receiving a user's full date of birth.

Age range and verification remain separate

Apps would be able to check an age band and separately determine whether it is verified. This could provide a shared interface for age-appropriate experiences, including AI, without each app handling a precise birth date.
