MaleCNS v1.0 maps an adult male fruit fly’s full nervous system
A reported release has added MaleCNS v1.0, a complete digital wiring map of an adult male fruit fly's nervous system, alongside the previously released female connectome.

A synaptic-resolution map of the male central nervous system
According to 404 Media, HHMI Janelia Research Campus and Google Research unveiled MaleCNS v1.0 earlier this month. The connectome is described as a synaptic-resolution map of the adult male Drosophila central nervous system, including the central brain, optic lobes, and ventral nerve cord. Online creators have also used the digital model in virtual demonstrations, including a Minecraft project.
A connectome for an adult female fruit fly, FlyWire, had been released in 2024.
MaleCNS v1.0 reportedly adds a finished, synaptic-resolution map of the entire central nervous system of an adult male fruit fly, covering more than 166,000 neurons.
Together with the existing female map, the resource is intended for comparing adult neural wiring across sexes. Attention from Minecraft and other demonstrations does not make the digital map itself a sentient brain.
