California adds seven datacenter rules on water, power, and costs

Disclosure, community involvement, and infrastructure costs

The Register reports that Governor Gavin Newsom signed seven California bills concerning datacenters. The measures reportedly require more operational reporting and community involvement in plans for future facilities, while addressing water and electricity disclosures, grid-connection and power-infrastructure costs, electricity rates, water resources, and environmental review.

Last year, Newsom vetoed AB 93, a datacenter water bill described as almost identical to one of the newly signed measures.

The reported new laws add disclosure, infrastructure-cost, water-resource, electricity-rate, and environmental-review provisions for datacenters.

If accurate, the package shifts datacenter oversight beyond a single water-reporting proposal to multiple areas of resource use, infrastructure costs, and project review.
