The Register reports that AMD reached an agreement to acquire World Labs for approximately $8.2 billion in stock. The report says the deal is expected to close by year-end if regulators approve it. World Labs, founded in early 2024, develops spatial-intelligence “world models” that generate, reconstruct, and simulate 3D environments from text, image, and video inputs. The report says World Labs will continue its advanced-model work and that Li will report directly to AMD CEO Lisa Su.
