Microsoft 365 Family and Premium plans face OneDrive cuts of up to 4 TB

From individual one-terabyte quotas to a shared pool

The report says the new shared-storage scheme already applies to new Microsoft 365 Family, Premium, and Pro subscribers. It says existing subscribers will move to it when plans renew on or after May 2, 2027. The shared pool removes the fixed 1 TB per-person limit when capacity remains available, and some existing customers may qualify for temporary bonus storage.

The previous arrangement provided 1 TB per user on Family, Premium, and Pro plans, for up to six users and 6 TB total.

Under the reported new arrangement, Family and Premium accounts have a 2 TB pool shared by up to six users, while Pro accounts have a 5 TB shared pool. Fully used Family or Premium accounts can lose up to 4 TB of combined capacity; fully used Pro accounts up to 1 TB.

The reported change alters both total capacity and how it is allocated: one account member can use more than 1 TB if space remains, but accounts that had used separate allocations across several members can have substantially less total storage.
