DHS reportedly orders DeepSeek products removed from U.S. federal civilian systems

Third-party derivatives covered, with an exception process

BleepingComputer reports that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has ordered federal civilian agencies within its authority to stop using DeepSeek products and remove covered products from government systems. The reported scope includes DeepSeek products, products from its affiliates, and third-party offerings built with DeepSeek technology.

The source does not establish a comparable prior level of DeepSeek use or procurement across the affected agencies.

According to the report, covered agencies must immediately exclude the products from procurement and remove them from agency IT systems, unless an exception is sought. Exception requests are due within 60 days of the order’s issuance and are to be reviewed by CISA.

The reported action would extend beyond a single chatbot or application to covered derivatives and third-party services using DeepSeek technology, while establishing an exception process for agencies.
