Matter over Wi-SUN FAN Demonstration Simulates Remote Lighting Control in Four-Story Building
Kyoto University announced a basic-function demonstration combining Matter and Wi-SUN FAN. It simulated remote lighting control in a four-story building and tested connections with multiple commercial Matter controllers.

Interconnection without modifying commercial controllers
A Kyoto University research group reports developing Matter over Wi-SUN FAN, which combines the Matter interoperability standard for smart-home devices with Wi-SUN FAN, a multihop wireless standard. The group says it developed Matter-capable devices with Wi-SUN FAN border-router or router functions and a smartphone commissioning app, then simulated remote building-lighting control in a four-story building on campus.
The source does not provide a like-for-like baseline for prior Matter interoperability or wireless-range testing.
The reported demonstration combined Matter with Wi-SUN FAN and registered initialized Matter devices with multiple commercial Matter controllers from different manufacturers without modifying the controllers.
The reported test addresses whether Matter devices can be set up and used through a multihop wireless network while remaining compatible with existing Matter controllers. It is a campus-scale proof of function, not evidence of public deployment or demonstrated building-management, energy, or consumer benefits.
