Perseverance reportedly sets off-world driving record at 45.22 km
NASA's Perseverance rover has reportedly become the farthest-traveled vehicle on another world after its Mars distance reached 45.22 kilometers.

A reported distance beyond Opportunity’s 45.16 km
According to ScienceAlert, Perseverance surpassed Opportunity's 45.16-kilometer Mars-driving record on October 11. The article says more than 90 percent of Perseverance's record-breaking distance was driven using AutoNav, its system for scanning terrain and navigating between waypoints set by scientists on Earth.
Opportunity held the reported off-world driving record at 45.16 kilometers, accumulated on Mars from 2004 to 2018.
ScienceAlert reports that Perseverance reached 45.22 kilometers on October 11, moving past Opportunity's 45.16-kilometer total.

If confirmed, the milestone would place Perseverance ahead of every previous vehicle in distance traveled across the surface of another world, while highlighting the rover's extensive use of onboard navigation.
