Corrections, updates and retractions
How we handle errors, new evidence, retractions and removal requests.
Correction policy
When an error in a fact, date, location, number, expected behavior or source is confirmed, we correct it and, where needed, add the reason and update time to the status history.
Additional sources
When primary information supports or corrects an existing record, we add the source and update the current explanation and verification status.
Retractions
If an error, misinterpretation or insufficient evidence invalidates the premise of a record, we mark it as retracted and retain the reason and history rather than silently removing it.
Removal requests
For requests involving rights, personal information or safety, we check the target URL, reason and the requester’s relationship to the subject. We may unpublish or remove a record when continued publication is inappropriate.
Contact us
Use the shared WORLD STATUS contact page for corrections, removals, rights and copyright requests. Include the target URL, the issue, proposed correction and supporting source, and your relationship to the subject where relevant.
